UEFA Adopting Blockchain Technology for 2020 Ticket Sales

Posted on Dec 28, 2019

UEFA (The Union of European Football Associations) has partnered with AlphaWallet to provide technology for the tokenization of tickets being sold for the UEFA Euro Tournament next year. The blockchain technology will specifically apply to 20,000 VIP tickets, enabling customers to access a range of services (e.g. accommodation or transport) without having to go through several time-consuming processes to verify their ticket each time. It will also eliminate the need for service providers to verify a VIP ticket via the UEFA’s centralised system. Victor Zhang, CEO of AlphaWallet, has stated that the use of a smart contract could allow UEFA to place a restriction on the resale of tickets, creating an open and regulated market for ticket sales.
