Rap superstar Akon has signed an agreement to build his own city in Senegal, which will be powered by 100% renewable energy. The city’s economy will be based on his own cryptocurrency Akoin, and every transaction taking place in the city will be carried out with this coin. The currency will not be limited to the city, with plans for Akoin to be available across Africa.The digital asset is not currently live and there is no white paper as of yet, however a platform launch for this year has been proposed. Akon City will be built in stages over the next decade, with the land to be used supposedly only a short journey from the capital city Dakar. Akon has expressed that he visualises the city to be a real version of Wakanda, the fictional country featured in Marvel’s Black Panther series.
